JUNK, MAN

November 30, 2016 By Jim Naughton

Madison Avenue spends hundreds of millions of dollars in seducing us, the hapless consumer. And much of their time and effort is invested in designing packaging for products that are immediately disposable upon a single use, wasting the earth’s precious resources in the process of stoking mindless consumerism. Shiny. Me want! But what once beckoned so seductively from a grocer’s shelf – was it just last week we met? – is now on its lipstick-smeared walk of shame to either the local transfer center for reforming before re-entering society, or is ignominiously cast into the bottomless hell of a suburban landfill. Below are studies of recyclable cans, bottles, milk cartons and other detritus executed between April and November 2016.
